I hope these are big enough to see! The left picture is all of my pieces I made to assemble my bow! It's crazy easy. All you have to do is roll out fondant, cut long 1'' wide by 5'' long strips, and then you fold them together and glue 'em! Then for the assembly, you just glue all the pieces together - edible glue, by the way. It's made of gum paste and water.
So, that is the cake topper. My next project was the chocolate dipped strawberries...200 of them. I owe a HUGE thank you to my amazing mom who helped me with this portion of the wedding project.
Chocolate dipped strawberries are actually really easy to make because it is exactly as it sounds: dipping strawberries in chocolate. It worked out really well because my mom had left over chocolate bunnies from Easter so we melted those down with some shortening and started dippin'! I did all the striping on them with a pastry bag and candy melts that I bought from Michaels (I love my job). It took us a while, but maybe wouldn't have taken as long if we didn't eat some along the way. I'm gonna go ahead and brag here a little bit and say they were pretty delicious.
Next came the cuppy cakes! I had 120 of those to do, but was able to crack them out pretty fast with four cupcake pans and my mom's extraordinary kitchen. I WILL have an island in my house when I'm rich.
I did chocolate and white cakes and buttercream frosting for all. Their dessert theme was Oreos, and I had originally planned to just do plain, double stuffed Oreos. HOWEVER, Oreo came out with these fabulous new BERRY filled Oreos which were absolutely perfect because the wedding colors were black and pink! Mom and I may or may not have had a few of the Oreos, too.
Here's the cake! It's a bit hard to see, but on the cake wires there are mini Oreos which was my favorite part about the cake hands down.
(Left) The bride's mother had her friend make pistao cookies (I apologize, for I don't know how to spell that. It's pronounced like pis-tay-oh). They are similar to caramel waffle cookies, but it's arguable which are better. Those cookies were tasty!
Their wedding programs! Darling little fans. The wedding was originally planned to be held outside so you could use the program to cool yourself off, but this being Montana, it was raining. It was a bit of a bummer because the garden was absolutely breathtaking. Instead, they performed the ceremony inside, and it was still gorgeous and they still looked just as happy.
It was also my Mom and Dad's 35th wedding anniversary that day, so props to them! I owe everything I am to them.
All in all, it was a really good experience for me. It was excited to get my work out there and to be able to watch everyone enjoy my treats! The best part, though, was clean up. I walked to the kitchen and the caterer was chowin' down on one of my cupcakes and he looks at me and he says: "Oh my gosh, this is so good! Did you make these?" And I just replied back bashfully, but PROUDLY, "Yes!" It's always nice to know that someone else who enjoys food, enjoys MY food.
Congratulations Ashley & Ryan
