Bake for the Cure.

Mrs. Carle, a former neighbor, teacher/volleyball coach at Skyview, and breast cancer survivor, started the tradition of Pack the Place in Pink. It's a volleyball game/event where everyone comes decked out in pink to show their support for the cure. This year, the school decided to set up silent auctions and donate the proceeds to the breast cancer foundation.

I got asked to bake a cake for one of the auctions, and as you see above, that is how it turned out. I used fondant for the stripes, volleyball, and bow, but the rest is frosted in buttercream. It auctioned off for $45, but unfortunately, the mistake was made that is was a display cake, and it had been touched and poked all night. The winner, whom I felt very sorry for, ended up not buying it and a teacher bought it off of her. The winner was very sweet though, and I offered to bake her a cake for the future.

All in all, it was a rewarding experience. It's great to know I was getting advertised, but even better to know that my work can contribute to a great cause.
